Dianchi Lake, located just southwest of Kunming City, was known to be not the cleanest. To improve the water quality, numerous wetlands have been created along its shoreline. They're  good for the environment and also offer a beautiful and peaceful scenery for visits just outside the city!

In Yunnan, there is a saying: "Trains don’t run faster than cars and the railway only goes abroad, not to inland destinations." Actually, this is referring to the old Yunnan-Vietnam Railway. Today, the one-meter-gauge train still runs once a day through Kunming. Hop on and get nostalgic!

"If winter comes, can spring be far behind?" P.B.Shelley once wrote these lines in one of his poems. In big parts of Yunnan, this can be answered with a clear 'No!'. The cooler days are over and during this season, colorful flowers are in bloom all over. These are the most famous ones.

The coldest days are over and the sun is shining more or less non-stop these days. Welcome to Kunming's strawberry season in spring! There are plenty of strawberry plantations around, offering its visitors the option to pick fruits themselves and enjoy a great warm day out in the fields.

Kunming is a big city and it's still getting bigger. For this reason, a couple of years ago, a 'new' Kunming was built south of the initial center, called Chenggong, some 30 km away. Urban planners have not only built new high-rise buildings but also a wetland park at the shore of Dianchi Lake.

Since the end of 2016, they can be seen all over town: rental bikes. 3 different bike companies spread their eye-catching, multi-colored bicycles in Kunming and already now they are well frequented. More and more city dwellers and tourists are making use of this new offer. This is how it works.
